Like many women, I spent all my life wanting to make big changes to my look. As I got older, I played around with hair colors and styles—going short, growing it out, dying it, highlighting it. But, I’ve always wanted one specific shade of blonde for years. Ash blonde, which seems to be all the rage now, has always been my number one hair goal.
Somewhere in between blonde and gray (with a touch of more gray). Something like this:
However, for years, it seems as though I’d go to the salon and get my hair done—leaving satisfied. My hair would be somewhat like this, but a few washes later, my hair would oxidize (plus with sunlight, products, etc), and it would be pretty orange. Like this:
I’d go back to my stylist and get a glaze, or a treatment, that would take the brassiness out. But, no matter how much purple shampoo I tried, how many “blonde” products I spent hundreds of dollars on, my hair would always revert back to this orange, macaroni and cheese colored hair.
So, in one of my insomniac moments at 3:00 A.M., I went on beauty blogs and Pinterest pages looking for products that will “guarantee brass-free blonde hair.” I finally came across one product that had insanely good reviews.
I saw on Amazon there was a shampoo called: Uniq: Blue Shampoo for Silver and Violet Tones that many people had reviewed. I was intrigued, originally, by the bottle which featured a model with a comparison of yellow hair and the ashy blonde/silver I have been dreaming of.
The shampoo claims that in only a few sessions, it’ll turn your hair from yellow to a cool silver. And, I was super intrigued to get it. But, decided to scroll down to read how people reviewed it—thinking it was way too good to be true. However, I was even more surprised when I saw 72% of customers gave the shampoo 5 stars, and many of them included before and after photos.
I am a hairdresser in Dallas and got recommended this shampoo by a friend. Having used pretty much every silver shampoo on the market over the years I could not believe the results from this!! We used it on a client yesterday and I wanted to share the results here, it’s incredible. We left this on the clients hair for 5 minutes and the results speak for themselves. There is no additional dye or toners etc used, just the shampoo onto wet hair! Will buy more in for our customers for sure. I’m not a review writer ever, but hope this helps someone get the results they would need on a budget! But ladies it’s really strong, so read the instructions closely and step up the length of time you leave it on each time you use it, we left it on longer for another client and it went a lovely ash colour, very in trend. Hope this helps anyone reading this:) a must try for sure!
Huge difference after one use. It’s very drying, so get a good conditioner.
After just one wash in which I left the shampoo in for 5 minutes, my hair was already noticeably less brassy.
And, after using it for two weeks, my hair is finally that silver-ish blonde I have been trying to get my whole entire life. I couldn’t be happier!
If you’re interested in grabbing a bottle for yourself, here are a few tips:
Make sure you wear the gloves they send you.
The shampoo is very bright purple, and if you have a white bathroom like me, you’ll want to lay some towels down, too. Reviews said that if you don’t use the gloves, it can leave some purple on your hands/body. Seeing as I’m a teacher, I didn’t want to show up to school the next day with purple hands for my 8th graders to question me. So, use the gloves.
Only leave it in for the proper amount of time.
I usually exceed time with hair dyes because I want the absolute most out of my hair dye, but, reviews also said if you do leave the shampoo in for too long, it will turn your hair a purple tint. Again–not wanting my 8th graders to question me–I went for the appropriate 3 minutes the box said.
Make sure you get a good conditioner.
Many customers said the shampoo dries out your hair. If you’re dying your hair blonde, chances are, you have a great deep conditioner already because bleach is drying AF. After washing out the shampoo (prepare for purple bathtub), make sure you leave the conditioner in for a few minutes before rinsing, as well. You should use a good mask after getting out if you choose to apply heart, too.
