Um, Vagina Wigs Are A Thing And They’re Even On Fashion Runways

As if fashion hasn’t gotten weird enough, this year, a South Korean designer has introduced vagina wigs on the runway this year. The wigs are a total ’70s throwback to when women embraced the bush. Kaimin’s 2018 collection definitely got some major attention.

According to the designer, the wigs are actually called “Merkins.” They’re basically mini mohawks that come out of your…area. Merkins were originally introduced in the 1600s after prostitutes had to shave their pubic hair off due to health issues, to make the clients think they still had pubic hair.

Dale Delaporte, creative director of Prema Hair, a Sydney- and New York-based luxury salon, was helping during the New York Fashion Week show and explained the inspiration behind the look, telling Whimn.com.au:

Because the Kaimin collection has a huge central theme of pride in your body and your sexuality – although they are not mutually exclusive – we had a lot of freedom here.

“We really wanted to push the futuristic punk aesthetic of this seasons’ collection and having matching hair and merkins was perfect.

“We worked hard on figuring out the best way to get them made and to have them looking as natural as possible and the results speak for themselves!”

Additionally, the looks were to honor women in 2018 who have begun embracing pubic hair and growing it out—like Miley Cyrus, Paris Jackson, and other celebrities who have embraced leg hair and armpit hair.

While it may be “high fashion,” it’s a bit much for my taste. What do you think?
