25 People Confess The Weirdest Ways They’ve Met Their Very Best Friends

When we first meet people, we have no idea how they’ll end up affecting our lives overall. They say that we meet our “soulmates” in the most unexpected places. For many of us, our best friends are some of our soulmates—they support us, love us, and make our lives better. After years of friendship, how often is it that we remember the exact moment we met our best friends? Recently, Reddit user pijeN57 asked users to share the weirdest way they met one of their best friends—and they totally delivered.

We were both trying to get with the same girl. Eventually started talking, became best friends, and completely forgot about the girl. We’ve been best friends for nearly a decade now.

Car accident, my fault. We have been friends for 15 years.

I went to her birthday party in kindergarten. Realized she had the same Rainbow Brite sheets as me and we instantly bonded over that. 30 years later and we are still best friends!

Made a suicide joke. He was severely offended by said suicide joke. We talked it out, I apologized, and he explained why he was offended.

Turns out we both work as suicide counselors and have very different ways of coping with the stress. We became great friends, are roommates, and got the opportunity to help a lot of people along the way, for which I am eternally grateful.

One of my best friends and I met at our first fight.

He thought I was someone else and punched me. Me not knowing what was going on, punched back.

We fought for about 3 min before someone stopped us and asked what was going on.

I answered “I dont know he hit me so I fought back.”

He said “I thought you were someone else but then you hit me back and I saw you weren’t him and panicked, so I just kept going.”

It made me laugh so hard I was in tears.

We went and got some food, his treat, and that was 12 years ago.

11 years old in the local candy/general store on the main street of town, one block from my family’s women’s clothing store, I walked over to buy some candy and a little girl infront of me was winding up a jack in the box. When it popped out, we both screamed. Her first words were “hey, I’m Shannon. I live in Germany and I’m visiting family, wanna stay the night with us?” I agreed to, but told her mother she would have to ask my Mom first. She was working at the shop, and after our mothers spoke for a few minutes I left with them. I am 26 now, she is 27. She lives on thd other side of the world but visits every so often. My soul sister for life.

First day of kindergarten. Begged her daily to come over to my house to play/have dinner. Finally agreed to at the end of the school year. Been friends 30 years now. She was my maid of honour at my wedding, is probably my daughter’s favourite “aunt”.

Oh, did I forget to mention she was my teacher in kindergarten? Now she’s family.

We’re both 22 now and met in 6th grade.

During class, our teacher had asked “who here doesn’t like beans?” and I raised my hand since…you know, I’m not a big fan. I was the only one in class to raise my hand. He told me years later that he started talking to me and wanted to be my friend so badly because I was “different” from everyone else lmao.

My therapist told me it would be a good idea to make a friend. I disagreed because I thought I was doing just fine by myself, but then again I was in therapy for an attachment disorder so I wasn’t really the expert on that. She eventually convinced me to give it a try, which I did mostly just to get her to stop bothering me about it. I had seen a girl walking around my college campus a few times wearing elf ears, so I thought, if I have to have a friend, that’s the one I want. I approached her one day at lunch and started a conversation about the ears. As it turns out, she told me one of the reasons she wore them was as a conversation starter to help her make friends. I told her it worked and asked her flat out if she wanted to be friends because social interaction is hard and I didn’t know how else to go about it. Well, it turns out my therapist was right. The elf-ear girl was my maid of honor when I got married last August, but I had to ask her not to wear them during the ceremony.

We bonded over getting accidentally high on cleaning chemicals in a poorly ventilated room. She also married me.

He kicked me in balls (He thought I was someone else) dude had the same hoodie as me. Been friends for 8 years now.

I dont really remember but my mom says that when i was around 2 years old and it was my first day at the daycare, i saw this other kid and told him he was going to be my best friend or something like that. 18 years later he is still one of my best friends and like a brother to me.

In the third grade I went to the store with my mom one weekend and saw this pair of these obnoxious striped pants that I desperately wanted but my mom wouldn’t buy them for me. The following Monday at school, I saw a girl in my grade wearing the same very pants that I wanted so the logical thing to do was to invite her to my birthday party in hopes that she would gift me the pants. She didn’t, but 18 years later we are still the two best friends that anyone could have, despite the crippling disappointment I experienced from not getting striped pants for my birthday that year.

At gym class in 4th grade a boy from my class was telling everyone I was his girlfriend. I punched him right in the face and he got a bloody nose and was knocked out. My mom had a job interview with his dad the next day. Apparently he said to her “wait, aren’t you the girls mother that punched out my son” we all still finds it funny after 5 years Now his dad said I’m apart of the family and my best friend is getting a computer just to talk to me when I move across Canada.

She stood in front of me in our college choir. One day she wore a racing t-shirt with my grandmother’s maiden name on it (it’s an unusual name). I accosted her after class and it turns out she’s from the same area as my grandma’s family and went to school with some distant family of mine. Going on ten years since then.

Found him face down in his own piss at a house party. He’s my best man at my wedding this year.

Went with her to the abortion clinic, after we mutually dumped the guy who was cheating on both of us by, well, seeing both of us. This was in college and he’d told me she was his ex.

That was 22 years ago. 🙂

Met my now-best friend when he accidentally ran over my foot with his car in our high school parking lot in 10th grade and then drove me to the hospital.

Went to a meet up for moms, sat beside her and started talking. Our oldest kids are 11 days apart and our youngest kids will be 3-4 months apart. Turns out she works at the same business as my husband. Did a little more digging, and it comes out that they were working together on the same project. We live in a big city and it just blows my mind that we managed to find each other.

I had been working with her for only a month, and we hadn’t talked a whole lot. We both sat at the smoking table at our job and that was the most communication we really had.

After about a month of working together, she came up to me and quietly asked if I had ever been with an uncircumcised guy. When I awkwardly responded yes, she let out a huge, relieved sigh and said “Oh thank God!” And proceeded to ask me questions about how to to down on her boyfriend at the time.

She has been my best friend ever since, hah.

I didn’t trust my then-boyfriend to be around her alone, and she needed a ride home from school. He left us in the car for a few minutes and we awkwardly sat in silence. A few months later, she hit me up on Facebook. The guy and I had a long on and off relationship, but she’s my best friend to this day, and it’s probably the only good thing to come from my insecurities.

I met my husband 25 years ago by jokingly snatching the phone out of my friends hand and asking “whose this?”

My car was stolen on Valentine’s Day 3 years ago. Above all odds, they later found it in a tow yard. I went to pick it up, and while I was waiting for some paperwork to process, I noticed a girl sitting in the corner by herself with a forlorn look on her face. I approached her and when I asked what was wrong, she told me she didn’t have enough money to get her car back. Apparently she was short by about $12, which I offered to give her. Maybe something else was bothering her that day because she burst into tears and threw her arms around me. She asked me if there was any way she could pay me back… so I said “how about a date?”

Here I am 3 years later and I still have the girl… and the car 🙂

I quit my job. She was living 5 hours away in another state, applied for my job and got it. I trained her for two weeks before I left. A year and a half later, the company I left for, merged with the company I left and we became coworkers. Turns out, we had a lot in common.

Got arrested for being a minor in possession of alcohol when I was 19. Met some guy in the holding cell who was arrested for the same thing. Fast forward a few months later and I’m at a party where I see this guy staring and pointing at me. I walked over to see what the deal was and on the way realized it was the same guy from that night. We laughed, talked, and ended up having a lot of mutual friends. A few years later after college, he brought over a coworker of his to my apartment as she was new to the city and didn’t know many people yet. She is now my fiancé and he’s a groomsman in my wedding,

For those wondering why we were arrested for what is normally a citation, an underage student at my college had been recently beaten to death outside of a bar, and the city instituted a zero tolerance policy on any underage drinking afterwards.
